SHARE the binoculars as you try to spot birds in flight over the trees and gharial and dolphins in the streams. Sunggle up together in a cosy hide of leaves or try sharing a camel ride. And then return to the Chambal Safari Lodge, set in the middle of a 100-year-old plantation. The Lodge has 10 independent cottages built on platforms of red sandstone with attached bathrooms and covered verandahs. The chefs of the place are as heritages as the lodge: they’ve been in the family for generations Declared a natural sanctuary, This relatively untouched area is teeming with wildlife. The guides are full or rare and wonderful tales of dacoits and bandit queens, and will obligingly regale you with a few, as you sit by the river bank. You can also go on a camel ride of discovery through the ravines and villages and visit the 800-year-old fort nearyby.
