Chonor House

IF you’ve ever wanted to stay in an art gallery or museum, Chonor House is the place for you. Each of its rooms is decorated with wall paintings and murals, done by the artists of the Norbulingka institute. Décor details haven’t been missed out either; whether cushions, lampshades or the hand-knotted carpets there’s Tibetan artistry in all. Service is wonderful, as is the restaurant serving authentic Tibetan fare, from momos to bobi (spring rolls), shapalay (bread pie), shabri (vegatable/meatballs in garlic sauce) and pishi (wontons), right down to the taste of Tibetan butter tea. Other restaurants to try for Tibetan fare include Norling Cafe and Namgyal Cafe. But Tibetan is not the only cuisine you’ll find in town. There’s also Italian at Nick’s Italian Kitchen, Pizza at Dharamkot’s Japanese at Lung Ta, and middle-eastern and Israeli fare at the snow Lion.
