Cochrane Place

This stately British home almost seems to rise out of the clouds that stretch around it for miles, broken only by hills and low mountain peaks. The Khangchendzonga looms over kurseong, and the aroma of Darjeeling tea perfumes the air around This stone, log, and cast-iron lodge, filled with antique furniture and colonial ambience. Since it is situated on a ridge, each of the lodge’s 12 bedrooms has fabulous views of the mountains and the valley, and cosy fireplaces and bukharis are scattered throughout the residence, to take the bite out of the chilly air. The terrace gardens are laden with fruit trees and flowers-of, which the orchid is the most abundant. There are plenty of trekking trails, for the adventurous.
