For-Khill

the For-khill was once the guesthouse of the king of Sikkim, and things are not that different now that It’s a hotel. It may have hosted Richard Gere and the Dalai Lama, but It’s hard to imagine that the service they received from the staff was any friendlier than what you will receive on your visit. It’s a window into the culture of Sikkim with folk with folk art and thangkas on display throughout the hotel; the kanchan garden offers grand views of the khangchendzonga. The hotel is walking distance from one of Gangtok’s amin shopping areas, MG Road. Pick up Lepcha weave bags, woollen carpets and dhurries in jewel colours, wooden artefacts like choktsees (collapsible wooden tables with intreicate designs). Other must-buys in Gangtok include jewellery, especially the finely carved dragon sets in silver or gold, and Sikkim tea. Also visit Old and New Market, and Lal Market.
