Fort Chanwa

CARVED from Jodhpur’s famous red sandstone, This18th century fort has recently been restored after coming very close to ruin, and its ancient walkways, narrow staircases, unexpected terraces and pavilions, some with enchanting desert views, are now accessible. You will want to spend hours running your fingers over the carved lattice work here, and will probably never want to leave your antique bed. The rooms are high-ceilinged, decorated with vibrant wall hangings, and enhanced with touches of coloured glass. Try your hand at a game of croquets on the lawns, or spend a few hours at the barm taking in the alternating bustle and serenity of the place. Have a meal in the arched, ornate dining room, and get a traditional massage at the hotel’s ayurvedic spa. Beyond the walls of the fort is the village of Luni, to explore.
