Garden Palace Heritage Hotel

The Garden Palace Heritage Hotel in Balasinor is only a couple of hours from Ahmedabad, but is a different world altogether. Set in the midst of fruit orchards, it has its own dairy, poultry and cattle as well as a farm that grows wheat and vegetables. It could have been a rustic retreat but for unmistakable sophistication of the palace itself, with its collection of antiques and souvenirs that the Nawab’s family has picked up over time and trips. The eight guest rooms also showcase the heritage of the palace, but nowhere is it more evident that in the dining room, where the Begum of Balasinor srves up Mughlai fare with a riff of Balasinor. An accomplished cook, she has a way with meats (and sweetmeats), and her signature dishes include kebabs, pasandas and halwas.
