Guhantara, a unique underground resort, is the first of its kind in the Whole of asia. Green meadows frame the entrance with trees swaying in the breeze and a dotting of terracotta and stone sculptures. The mud-walled tunnels that lead to its heart are lined with sculptures and frescoes, and the entrance to every room is through a typical village door with wooden crossbars and jute threading. Patches of sky peep through at tunnel junctions or in the rooms, which are designed as caved enclosures with several discreet hideaways where modern amenities are stashed. Balconies overlook an artificial lake created by rainwater harvesting, and there’s even an auditorium with a waterfall serving as a dramatic backdrop.
