Phool Mahal Palace

This enormous lakeside palace surrounded by myth, stands in what was, in the 17th century, a pleasure garden for the Maharajas of kishangarh. The Phools Mahal was constructed in 1870 as the monsoon residence for Maharaja Prithee singh, and plant and bird life continues to flourish around the lake during the rains. With an abundance of garden pavilions a lotus bastion, marbletiled rooms and filigree pillars, the palace manages to evoke and atmosphere of still coolness, even at the height of summer. The rooms, all of which look out onto the lake, are furnished in bold colours, period furniture, and textured fabrics. Visit the many stonecutting factories around, to watch artisans at work, and hire cycles, or walk to the 17th century kishangarh fort with its striking murals and miniature paintings.
