The Spice Village Periyar is set in the heart of kerala’s Cardamom Hills and boders the tiger reserve. Canny architects have ste the individual cottages in the middle of a landscaped spice garden. There’s elephant grass thatch, terracotta-tiled floors, wooden beds and chairs, and the furniture is crafted with pinewood from Cochin’s old docks. Food is a subtle blend of spices that grow in the wild; you can even take cooking lessons.
