It’s the biryani capital for Malayalis. One of its busiest streets is called Sweet Meat Street. It’s a spice port and they even pour buttemilk on your forehead as part of the ayurveda treatment. in other words, Kozhikode is foodie heaven, right from the vegetarian spread of Onasadya, an Onam meal with two dozen items, from starters to dessert, and a must-eat at Dakshin, to the Moplah cuisine with its Arabic influences. Seafood and stuffed food (stuffed goat, chicken, mussels, plantain, pies, you get the idea) vie for table space with the famous biryani. For the latter, the first stop is Paragon; the restaurant’s been around for six decades. Other must-visits are Bombay Restaurant, Calicut Towers and Zains. The mutta roast and parotta at the French Store is a work of art, as is the seafood at your hotel.
