The Bamboo Resort

This tiny resort, surrounded by mountains and set on a paddy field, with its vegetable and herb gardens, bamboo-furnishing interiors, has been built according to the principles of feng shui. Its wonderfully calming place, with a sunny, top floor meditation room, a Buddhist altar and windows that look out onto the snows. The interiors of each room are unique, and are designed around the four elements. The food here is simple and traditional, and unusual ingredients like nettles, orchids and wild yams-all grown on the property-are used in many of the dishes. Explore the villages of Sajong and Rumtek atop a mountain bike, or embark on the two-day trek to Tijure Ridge for a splendid view of the khangchendzonga.
