The High Range Club

Anamudi is the highest peak in South India and totally worth the trek. Ideally, you should do it when the Neelakurinji is in flower, dyeing the hills a deep beautiful blue, but it flowers once every 12 years, so the next expected flowering is in 2018. Traverse the gently sloping tea plantations, winding lanes, tumbling hills and tiny ‘picture book’ hamlets as you walk together, you’ll also find natural forests of sandalwood here. Visitors to Munnar rave about the famously snobbish high Range Club-built of wicker and teak, It’s where the tea planters of the region get together. Your best bet for getting in is to have a member sponsor you, but it is affiliated to a Whole number of clubs in India and abroad, so see if you qualify. Do carry a suit and remember that on certain days, women are not allowed into the bar-contain your annoyance.
