Step back in time when you enter the House of Mangaldas Girdhardas, once the home of a Gujarati businessman and now a beautiful boutique property, with 12 rooms wrapped around an inner courtyard, period furniture, stained –glass windows and every mod con you could ask for. It is also home to one of the best restaurants in the city, Agashiye. Situated on the terrace, its menu changes daily, yet it remains the best place for a Gujarati thali, patronized as much by locals as much by locals as tourists. For variations on the thali, visit Chetna at Ratanpole and Vishala at Vasna. indulge in jalebis at chandravilas in Manek Chowk and bhajias at Raipur Bhajia House. For street fare, there is Khau Galli in Law Gardens, Bhatiar Galli for non-vegetarian fare and nothing like asharfi’s kulfi for dessert.
