Horathapola Estate

Horathapola Estate, as the name suggests, is just that: a planter's bungalow built nearly go years ago, bearing a distinct colonial flavour. It is wrapped with lush green lawns broken by flowering trees and the owrking plantation is just beyond This, growing rice, coconut, cashewnuts, mangoes and spices. But it is far enough away from the bungalow to allow for seclusion, the rooms hark back to a bygone era and are filled with wooden furniture and four-poster beds. The hotel relies heavily on the local lavour in its cuisine-some of the curries are still prepared in clay pots on the firewood stove. Outside the hotel, begin with a daytrip to the ancient city of panduwasnuwara and move on to the ancient yapahuwa rock temple.
