GEOFFREY Bawa's final architectural accomplishment, the wistfully named Last House is everything we love most about him, and a wonderful (not to mention exclusive) place to stay. Light streams through the six-bedroom villa, large open verandahs willingly welcome the wind, and the windows frame the sea, marking paintings redundant. The house is built around an emerald pool with frangipani trees offering sun-spangled showdowns during the day, and opens directly onto one of Sri Lanka's most unspoiled, most photograph-worthy beaches. The staff tends to pamper its guests, so you'll want for nothing except more time, more nights, more of the endless sands. Sit out on one of the planter chairs and watch the endless sands.
