This Geoffrey Bawa-designed hotel may not look like much from the outside, but inside is a different story. Right from the sweeping stairase with a sculptured bronze portrayal of the Portuguese landing in Galle, the Lighthouse melds design, history and location. It has the Indian Ocean lapping at its threshold, filling a rock-cut pool and providing a backdrop to all fresco meals. The food is fantastic, from lavish breakfast spreads to lunch and dinner buffets.
