The Dutch House

EXCLUSIVE, secluded and close to being the last word in luxury, the Dutch House stands in an English garden at the top of a hill, with a view of the majestic Galle fort. One of the country's most well-preserved mansions, it has croquet lawns, a fascinating collection of contemporary art and 18th century Dutch antiques. Its four luxury suites evoke an era long past, with their four-poster beds, silk drapes and opulent soft furnishing. Each sitting room has a writing desk with views of the fort, the croquet lawn or a private garden, and the large bathrooms are fitted with colonial-type bathtubs. Dinner is at the Sun House next door, one of Sri Lanka's most renowned restaurants.
